The Challenge

With the site's increasing popularity among short-term visitors, ensuring their safety was top priority for the Department. The existing conditions presented a variety of challenges relating to steep gradients, loose surface material causing slips, service access restrictions and consistent damage from the coastal conditions.

Working to enhance the natural scenic character, our landscape architects devised an upgrade strategy that was sympathetic to the scenic character. The intent behind the design was to enhance the existing beauty of the landscape, while providing functionality and durability for the harsh, coastal environment.

Our Solution

The design solution centered around leaving as minimal impact on the landscape as possible to retain its natural character.

In realigning the track, we increased the surrounding plantings to provide stability and support. The result now is increased accessibility and improved visitor safety.

Using our multidisciplinary approach as an advantage, our teams from landscape architecture, surveying, civil and structural engineering engaged in a collaborative process to find innovative solutions to the challenges presented. Regular communication between our in-house experts contributed to a project process that was both efficient and effective.
